Applying an equity lens to meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs
HIA developed the India Advocacy Agenda of People Living with NCDs, the foundation of the meaningful involvement movement in India. HIA has convened multi-stakeholder working groups for NCDs, including lived experience champions. Meaningful involvement is now institutionalised in the National Programme for Prevention and Control of NCDs (NP-NCD) and HIA is now actively working towards robust operationalisation.
NCDAK developed the Advocacy Agenda of People Living with NCDs in Kenya, which guides local, national and global advocacy. NCDAK co-developed the Global Charter for Meaningful Involvement of People Living with NCDs and facilitated its endorsement by the Ministry of Health. People with lived experience have also co-developed the Kenya Strategic Plan for Prevention and Control of NCDs. As Co-chair, of the NCD Inter-agency Coordinating Committee and Chair of the Advocacy Technical Working Group, NCDAK is focusing on advocacy, social accountability, public expenditure management and public participation.
Both alliances are currently developing national NCD Equity Reports. This session will focus on the trajectory of meaningful involvement through an equity lens. Experiences from these LMICs have valuable lessons to be learnt for key NCD stakeholders.
