Balancing plates: Advocating for health, justice, and sustainability through tax reforms

The session will explore the crucial role of tax reforms in addressing the escalating consumption of tobacco, alcohol, and ultra-processed foods, especially in Latin America. These unhealthy commodities contribute significantly to public health crises and environmental degradation.

The session will highlight successful advocacy strategies from the Brazilian Tax Reform and other regional examples, emphasizing the importance of civil society organizations in shaping fiscal policies. Participants will engage with an interactive panel, learn from real-world country experiences and co-designing actionable checklists for effective policy implementation.

This session aims to equip attendees with the basic tools to navigate the challenges of fiscal reform, and advocate for healthier, more sustainable futures.
