National NCD response implementation and the role of civil society-lessons learnt, results achieved and the way forward towards and beyond the 4th UN High-Level Meetings on NCDs
Civil society organisations are integral to any effective and sustainable NCD response implementation. Consecutive global policy declarations and technical work plans towards NCD prevention and control emphasise the critical role and responsibility of civil society.
But how does this materialise in practice at the country level? What lessons have been learnt and which results have been achieved?
World Diabetes Foundation has supported civil society organisations across LMIC settings worldwide for more than two decades seeking to nurture the mobilisation of strong national platforms with policymakers, health authorities and healthcare providers through representation, engagement and co-ownership from various national and local groups and stakeholders.
The satellite session will bring to the stage leaders from civil society organisations involved with NCD programmes at a nationwide scale and have them sharing their experiences and perspectives, based on the following :
1) How has your organisation been engaged with implementing the national NCD response and which have been the frameworks of engagement?
2) Which results have been achieved and which have been the key drivers from the position of your organisation?
3) How do you see the role of your organisation and civil society in the national NCD response moving forward?
The satellite session will also bring to the stage representatives from ministries of health and from regional alliances and regional and global lead agencies to give further policy perspectives, in light of next year’s 4th UN HLM on NCDs and in particular with a focus on multisectoral and multistakeholder frameworks and their dynamics within the national NCD response.
