Transforming food environments: Involving communities in systems change strategies for NCD prevention and control
Unhealthy diets and malnutrition are major drivers of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with dietary patterns shifting towards increased intake of unhealthful foods. Poor access to adequate and diverse food supplies or clean water leads to consumption of nutrient-poor options, malnutrition and associated health issues and adversely impacts planetary health. Preventing diet-related NCDs requires transforming food systems and powering-up communities at local and national levels ensuring culturally relevant interventions that foster long-lasting behavioural changes.
This interactive session will explore effective community engagement and multi-stakeholder approaches to transforming food systems through storytelling. It will showcase innovative strategies, research, and advocacy to improve diets in Australia, Africa, China, and the Pacific Islands.
Participants will share knowledge, best practices, and context specific experiences, promoting cross-sector collaboration for scaling-up national NCD responses and implementing effective interventions through strengthening community participation.
