Innovative strategies to manage conflicts of interest and prevent industry interference
Innovative strategies to manage conflicts of interest and prevent industry interference: Supporting good governance in the multisectoral response to the commercial determinants of health.
The aim of this interactive session is to inspire NCD actors by showcasing innovative strategies to tackle the negative aspects of the commercial determinants of health (CDOH) – focussing on identifying, preventing and managing conflicts of interest (COI) and countering industry interference as critical measures in supporting good governance in multisectoral responses to NCDs.
The increasing focus on the CDOH has highlighted the complexity of the challenge and the actions needed at macro and micro levels to effect system-wide change. Governments, acutely aware of the required evidence-informed regulatory actions, need the strategies and tools to safeguard NCD policymaking from the negative influence of certain powerful economic actors. Diverse stakeholders across the globe are contributing to a growing body of innovative strategies and developing tools to support leadership, informed decision-making and action. This session will showcase and drive leadership highlighting: emerging research, frameworks and tailored tools to identify and manage risks, including COI and prevent interference; the power of the media; and the experiences of civil society-led coalitions.
